ME 3.X is an obsolete system, and new cars are no longer being equipped with it; instead, the transition is towards ME 4.X. Given this shift, there is an opportunity to bring all existing cars up to the latest version of ME 3.X before commencing additional updates.

The majority of vehicles are expected to undergo upgrades to either ME 3.5 or ME 3.7, depending on decisions made by VW and Cariad. ME 3.5 can be seamlessly upgraded via OTA updates to ME 3.7, as no significant features or issues have been identified. Once a majority of cars have been successfully upgraded, Skoda can confidently focus on introducing new features and subsequent updates.

Currently, the top priority is ensuring that most vehicles are running on the latest ME 3.X version. This is the primary focus at the moment.

As for the application, insider information reveals that the team has invested considerable time in developing version 7.0, incorporating significant changes in the backend. Interestingly, they frequently checking the Tesla app, aiming to create a similarly user-friendly and functional interface. The upcoming version is expected to provide statistics, charging history, trip logs, and various other features. However, no specific timeline (ETA) has been provided, as the main focus is on ensuring accessibility and availability.

Frankly speaking, I am sharing all this information because a few other sources and I feel deceived by Skoda Auto. We have been discussing the car for many months at home, visiting numerous dealerships, and engaging in conversations with various people, including those from Skoda.

I won't deny it; I am from the Czech Republic, and I have several close sources in Mlada Boleslav working in various interesting positions within the company. One or two (or even three) people are also in Cariad. All the information I share is confirmed by at least 2 to 3 people. They are all aware that some information may be shared with the public on this forum, and they are more or less fine with it.

There is nothing particularly unusual about it. Skoda is constrained by VW and Cariad. They don't handle software in-house and depend on different companies, as well as third-party vendors.

Let's see what happens. Skoda employees are saddened by what is happening and are trying their best to fix it.

    Thank you for the information!

I guess that excludes cars with ME 3.5 that get updates to 3.6&3.7 and cars with 3.6 that are getting 3.7 OTA already now, without notification or user action.

I wonder when the cars with 3.5 built before mid of August 2023 will get the updates too.

I suppose so. No information about ME 3.5 drivers was shared, as we've been discussing ME 3.0 - ME 3.2.

    Hello.

I have some updates about the upgrades and also regarding preheating, I would say. There's both good and bad news.

    • Cars will be updated this year to the latest version of ME 3.7. Testing is ongoing, and they have achieved positive results. The good news is that ME 3.X is "obsolete," so they can upgrade all cars to ME 3.7 and then start working on additional features. Q1 2024 should still be feasible if VW allows the service calls.
    • Most cars will be updated offline, at your car service. OTA updates are not possible as potential issues were found that could potentially result in bricked cars.
    • Preheating is being considered as mentioned before, but there's a catch. It seems that Skoda is the only brand within the group pushing Cariad to introduce preheating to ME 3.X systems.

There is a roadmap, but it will not be made public. Skoda and Cariad are collaborating on software development with various 3rd-party vendors, and any delays could lead to significant public issues. Skoda is aware of communication problems but is facing resistance from the headquarters in Wolfsburg.

But you know, I never said anything. 8)

our enyaq before 2024 too :D

The issue is that Q4 was launched even before the Enyaq. I realize now that my comment was likely incorrect, or I may not have considered my wording carefully. What I intended to convey was the introduction of entirely new cars, not just facelifts or adaptations of existing platforms. I apologize for any confusion.

No public notes have been posted yet. The communication team is actively working on them, though. You will be able to view all the notes soon-ish.

LOL, I can't help but feel a sense of déjà vu, reminiscent of my experiences with Blizzard Entertainment and their use of the word "soon."

Is Audi really adapting the control units software differently to the rest of MEB? thats an interesting new info if so (at least for me).

Audi and Porsche are exploring the implementation of Android Automotive OS in their cars. Audi commenced this with the Q6 e-Tron and is extending it to the rest of their vehicle lineup. It's important to note that only new cars will come equipped with Android Automotive OS, and there won't be an update available from obsoleted systems to AAOS.

What I don´t get: Audi Q4 seems to have preheating at least when you a charger from the Navi according to some colleague. Software is different but the technical limitations should be the same. Or is Audi using different Hardware. And from what I read and understood the new MY2024 Enyaqs have pretty the same heating system. So to me this can only be Software limitations in the end. I mean it can´t be that hard to get the configuration (that seems to be not dangerous for old platform) from Audi for preheating if it works there with same hardware. Working for a big group too and there is always a way to get important source code shared from other units if it is needed for the customer.

It's important to mention here that Audi is using the extended Android Automotive OS to manage both the infotainment and hardware components in the car. This is far away from the current ME 3.X systems found in VW and Skoda.

There are some changes in the battery structure of the Enyaq ME2024, which is why the system can more easily preheat the battery. The battery structure is also slightly different, making the process more straightforward. It's not fair to directly compare Skoda/VW with Audi and Porsche. Audi and Porsche have more autonomy and are actively shaping the future with the latest technologies. Skoda is still considered an affordable car and not necessarily the favorite kid in the neighborhood of VW concern. ;)

Thank you for these insights. Just to clarify when you talk about „older enyaq“, you mean pre-MJ24 cars, correct?

    Yes, correct.

    Überraschung heute morgen…

This can give others an idea of what their ME 3.X will be like once Skoda contacts them. It should still be in Q1 or the beginning of Q2, pending approval from the wonderful folks in Wolfsburg.

I am aware of that. But it is not showing the version in the app. I am also not the only one here. At least another user that that has 3.6 has the same issue.

Improvements? Can‘t tell. Just realised its on 3.7 around 15min ago :).

Don't expect too much; it's a small update to bring your car to the latest version. Skoda aims to have everyone on ME 3.7 to facilitate the delivery of more updates in the future—primarily smaller updates, with no major changes expected at this time.

And I have to remain quiet for now. More things will be shared... Soon™. :D

The deal at Skoda right now is pretty straightforward. We won't be getting preheating because of some WLPT hiccups. Seems like VW/SA can't swing the preheating for the existing cars without messing up WLPT and homologation. The only shot we've got is to somehow bypass homologation or negotiate with the higher-ups. But that's been a no-go till now.

This is technically almost correct, but there are a few more aspects to consider. WLTP is one of the explanations that people, and even employees from within, receive as an answer. However, they have discovered that this excuse is no longer acceptable, especially since many other car manufacturers have implemented preheating for their cars in the past (oh, hello Kia EV6, can I choose you instead of my Enyaq?).

There is a minor issue with the hardware itself. The battery in the "older" Enyaq is only heated from one side. If you refer to the technical drawing of the battery, you'll understand that it's being heated solely from the bottom, which can lead to problems with proper heating. Another concern that I and a few others have noticed is that the "heaters" responsible for battery heating may face challenges during winter temperatures, as they are exposed to cold wind, snow, water, and other elements, even with underbody protection.

However, the most significant issue is not related to the hardware. Skoda is advocating for preheating, but it seems they are the only ones. Unfortunately, it's up to Cariad and VW to decide which features will be implemented in ME 3.X systems. After discussing this with a few people from the team, it appears that Skoda is quite desperate, given the increasing inquiries from customers.

The topic itself is not closed yet. We won't see it implemented this year for sure. The software update to a higher version is currently the priority, but that's a separate discussion.
